Artist's Statement

It’s the play of sunlight that brings a place to life. That’s what I find exciting and inspirational and what I try to capture in my paintings. Sometimes the subject is just an open field, or someone’s back yard with laundry waving. It’s the simple, down to earth things of life that draw my attention and find their way to my canvas.

In my figurative African scenes a story often emerges, usually about the relationship between people and their environment – inviting the viewer to come to his own conclusions. Often my landscapes include a bit of humanity – a house, or just a road – who knows where it leads?
